When the U.S. Open tees off at Oakmont Country Club from June 12–15, all eyes won't just be on Bryson or Rory — they'll also be on the terrifying 8th hole

Measuring a jaw-dropping 289 yards, the par-3 8th will officially become the longest par-3 in U.S. Open history. On paper, it’s a single swing. In reality, it’s a minefield of risk.

"You might need a fairway wood just to hold the green," one caddie whispered during practice rounds. Even the best ball-strikers are bracing for impact.

But that's not the only nerve-shredder on this legendary layout.

Just a few holes earlier, the Church Pew BunkerOakmont’s iconic 100-yard-long sand trap with its 12 brutal grass-covered ridges—waits to wreck scorecards on holes 3 and 4. If the 8th doesn’t get you, the pews might.

Built in 1904 and renovated with care by Tom Fazio and Gil Hanse, Oakmont is already regarded as one of golf’s toughest tests. But this year, it’s not just tough. It’s historic.

So here’s the question golfers are asking:

Can you par the longest par-3 ever at a U.S. Open? Or would you need divine intervention — maybe straight from the Church Pews?
